Our Engagement Social | gathered together and loving it.
Let me just tell you...
Since the day Steven proposed, life has been a wonderful whirlwind. People showing their truest form, finances pulling us every which way, our minds and bodies being challenged...and all of this is to say..it's been a major BLESSING.
I can't tell you how often "boredom" has been a fear of mine...and man, does God know how to give us what we want sometimes. I have been SO FAR from bored for the past year, and we just put it into high gear the past month.
What a delight our engagement gathering was; to be able to turn off all the noise and come together to celebrate one thing: US.
I love that I have a mom and dad that wanted to put something like this together for us. I'm happy that I have a mom that allows me to have my little quirks about certain things I'd like to include, and others that I may not. I love that my dad and my little brother worked two weeks in a row landscaping their yard so that it would look great for our guests even though our party was in the evening and I don't know if anyone really noticed the grounds around the house. I love that my mom cooked a bunch of different appetizers that would be healthy for our guest because she cares about people. I love that Steve's mom drove down from Sedona to share in the weekend with us and even stayed in our new home. I love that she gives me hugs and talks to me even though I know I'm totally out of her comfort zone. I love that she loves her son and sees how happy he is that she wants to be a part of it. I love that even though it's so easy to focus on the things that may not be working out...God has made it so difficult to ignore how much everything is going right.
Romans 8:28The Message (MSG)
26-28 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
I'll write a bit of what I said during our toast:
I want to thank each of you for coming and sharing in this new season of life with us. I know this is quite an intimate gathering, but we kept it this way because we want you to know that if you are in this room, it is because we consider you DEAR AND FAITHFUL FRIENDS. You each have had active parts in our relationship in one way or another, whether it's loving on us from wherever you are, or loving us right in front of our faces. Either way, it means the world to us. God has worked so magnificently in our lives both individually, and together, that we can't help but rejoice in the fact that through all the growth and change, you all are still here with us, encouraging us, laughing with us, crying with us, and just accepting us for the very "unique" people/relationship that we are. We thank God for you. Over and over again. Thanks for being who you are. CHEERS!
